So I have been researching writers block and came across this entry as someone elses(Crimogenic) blog...I found interesting.
"Writer's Block, A Disease? "I have bouts of writer's block. I'm creating this post because of writer's block. For the past few days, I've been attempting to "write" my new novel. (It was going very well until this past weekend.) I say attempting because the white space on the blank paper just doesn't want to fill up. It's fighting me. For every word I write, the blank space counters. It's never ending. Every time I hit return, it grows. Sadistic, I tell you. Plain Sadistic. So in my madness, I thought I'd research writer's block. What the frak is it? (Can't you tell I'm on the Battlestar wagon).According to the Wikipedia Gods, writer's block is a phenomenon involving temporary loss of ability to begin or continue writing, usually due to lack of inspiration or creativity. *phenomenon* By using phenomenon rather than any ol' other word, the Wiki Gods have spoken and deemed writer's block a fraking BIG deal.Wiki Gods go on to state that in the book Silence, by Tillie Olsen, the author argues that historically writers have been unable to devote themselves to, or concentrate on, their writing because their social and economic circumstances prevent them from doing so.Heck, makes sense to me. I definitely have periods when work and my family life end up consuming all of my attention, or work is stressful and my brain refuses to function after 5 p.m. And I'm definitely not a early morning writer. Here are some solutions to writer's block according to sources on the web.Read a bookTake a breakFree write (turn off the internal editor)Schedule time to writeTry a writing exerciseMeditate (my favorite)Write basic plot outlineBrainstorm at the beginning of writing sessionGet some fresh airListen to musicJoin a writing group (hurrah for critique groups)I'm wondering how wide spread is writer's block. Is this something that happens to a lot of other writers. What really causes it and what are others writers doing to combat it.Posted by Crimogenicat 10:36 AM January 19, 2009Another site that teaches poetry. http://www.pdcourses.com/HOME.html
